Fan Expo Vancouver & Paperback release of Comics Will Break Your Heart!

Hi guys, I’ll be tabling at Fan Expo Vancouver on February 15th-17th. I’m a comic creator guest, so I’ll be in that part of the exhibit hall, at table P17. I’ll have copies of my books for sale, as well as original artwork, and I’m on a Kids & Comics panel on Monday afternoon. Go here for more info. Hope to see people there!

2019!

It’s a new year, and there are lots of new things happening!

First, did you know I have a novel coming out? My very first book without pictures! It’s called Comics Will Break Your Heart, and it’s all about comics, hilariously enough. It will be published on February 12th by Roaring Brook Press. To celebrate the upcoming release of Comics Will Break Your Heart, my publisher is offering a free art print (drawn by me, of course) to those who pre-order the book. Also, the first book of Imbalance, the new Avatar: The Last Airbender trilogy written by me with art by Peter Wartman came out in December! I hope people are enjoying it. It was a real thrill to get to write comics based on my favourite animated show. Book 2 in the Imbalance trilogy will be out in May from Dark Horse Comics.

2019 also means the publication of my next original graphic novel, Pumpkinheads, which was written by Rainbow Rowell! Pumpkinheads will be out the end of August from First Second Books, and I’m super excited about it. Lots happening for me in 2019, whew! O_o

ALSO! I have a new (kind of) book announcement for 2020: First Second Books is republishing my old, out of print graphic novel, The War at Ellsmere under a new title, One Year at Ellsmere. And to celebrate, I’m giving Ellsmere a shiny new look, and re-inking the entire book. Go HERE for more information, and a peek at the updated look of this graphic novel.

Lucca Comics & Games

I will be in Lucca, Italy (!!) from October 31st until November 4th for Lucca Comics & Games, the second largest comic convention in the world! Very excited about this. Here’s a little graphic (in Italian) that has my signing times on it. You can find me with my Italian publisher, Edizioni BD, at Stand 243 in the Padiglione Napoleone. They will be debuting the publication of the Nameless City trilogy (yes, all of it!) in Italian. 

Above are my signing times (Mer is Wednesday, Dom is Sunday). Hope to see some readers in Italy!

The Divided Earth Events!

Hi everyone! The Divided Earth, the third and final book in the Nameless City trilogy will be out in bookstores very soon! I’m so excited for people to read it! I really hope you like the conclusion of Rat and Kai’s story, which I’ve worked so hard on. Three years of my life spent on this trilogy! I have a few upcoming events to promote the publication of The Divided Earth; if you’re in the area, I hope you’ll come by to say hi and pick up a book. If you’re not able to come to one of my public events, The Divided Earth can be found where most books are sold: at your local bookstore, your local comic store, Amazon, B&N or Indigo.

The Divided Earth

Look at this!! All three Nameless City books in one place! It’s only a few months until the publication of the conclusion of The Nameless City trilogy! Book 3, The Divided Earth will be out on September 25. I’ll be doing a few events to promote it’s publication, but until then, you can pre-order the book using this helpful publisher website, which has links to all the major bookstores that will be carrying The Divided Earth. I usually recommend supporting your local bookstore or comic store if you have one, but if not, Barnes & Noble, Amazon and other chains will do just fine. There’s also Indigo for the Canadians. 🙂

Two questions and two announcements!

Hi guys. While going through the messages in my contact form, I noticed two questions popping up frequently. I’m going to answer them here instead of replying to each individual question.

When will The Nameless City 3 be published? The title of the third Nameless City book is The Divided Earth and it will be published by First Second books on September 25th, 2018! I’m thrilled that readers are excited about the series, and are anxious to read the third book. And to answer another question: The Divided Earth marks the end of this trilogy and the conclusion of Kai and Rat’s story. The series was always planned as a trilogy that would finish with book 3, so there are no further books planned. 

I can’t access your old webcomic Demonology 101. Will you be putting it back online? Demonology 101 is 18 years old at this point. I started drawing it in 1999 when I was a teenager. It used to be hosted on another website, but now that host, who very generously provided space for this comic for years without charging me money, has decided to take that site down. So, D101 has passed on into the internet either. As of now, I have no plans to bring it back. I feel like 18 years is long enough for a webcomic to exist on the internet, and I’ve received many wonderful comments from people who have enjoyed reading it. And … well, I feel like it’s just time to let it go. <:)

And now my big announcement! I have been hired by Dark Horse Comics to continue writing the Avatar: The Last Airbender comic book series! Here’s the press release. I’m going to be taking the reins over from Gene Yang, who is a fantastic writer and a friend, and continuing the adventures of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph and the rest of the Avatar crew. The books will be drawn by an artist I’m a big fan of, Peter Wartman. Not yet sure when the first book (we’re initially doing 3 volumes) will be published. I’ll announce that when I have more info.

The second announcement is the next graphic novel that I’ll be drawing: I’m drawing a comic called Pumpkinheads, written by the amazing author Rainbow Rowell (Eleanor & Park, Fangirl). I’m a huge fan of Rainbow’s work, and getting the chance to work with her is a dream come true. Currently Pumpkinheads is slated for publication in 2019, and you can read the press release about it here.

The Stone Heart (Nameless City 2) Book Tour Dates!
